Sydney J's Eagle Service Project
📋 Event Info
📝 Details:
Come support Sydney J's Eagle Scout service project! We will be building the exact squirrel box shown in the Wildlife Rescue Center plans linked below. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome; many hands will make a big difference.
Why this matters:
The Wildlife Rescue Center gives this type of box to each recovering squirrel patient as it prepares for release. The squirrels build nests inside using enrichment materials such as leaves and newspaper, then take the box with them when they return to the wild. The box provides a safe starter home until each squirrel builds a drey of its own. The Center treats more than 500 squirrels every year, so it has an ongoing need for these boxes.
Food:
- Snacks will be available throughout the day
- Pizza will be served for lunch
Please bring, if available:
- Phillips-head screwdrivers
- Cordless drills
- 3/32-inch drill bits
- Wood clamps with an opening greater than 8 inches
About the Wildlife Rescue Center:
The Wildlife Rescue Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Ballwin that has served Missouri since 1979. It rehabilitates injured, sick, and orphaned native wildlife for release back into natural habitats while educating the public about protecting wildlife and healthy ecosystems. The Center handles more than 20,000 requests for help and admits up to 3,600 wild animals each year. Its work is powered by charitable gifts and dedicated volunteers, without local, state, or federal funding.
