About the Out Island Adventure

The Out Island Adventure is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live on a rugged barrier island. Your crew will paddle roughly 6 miles out to Big Munson Island โ€” an island only inhabited by Scouts. During your stay you'll fish for your dinner, fish for sharks, snorkel, kayak through a mangrove lagoon, explore the island, and work on your survival skills. The first and last nights are spent in air-conditioned dormitories at the Brinton Center; the other 4 nights are spent camping in tents on Big Munson Island.

๐Ÿšฃ

Kayaking

Paddle 6 miles to Big Munson Island and kayak through mangrove lagoons. Explore the island and surrounding waters by kayak.

๐Ÿคฟ

Snorkeling

Explore coral reefs and tropical fish in the Florida Keys โ€” plus an unforgettable night snorkel experience.

๐Ÿ๏ธ

Island Camping

Camp 4 nights on Big Munson Island, a remote barrier island of hardwood hammocks, mangrove swamps, and sandy beaches accessible only by water.

๐Ÿฆˆ

Shark Fishing

Fish for sharks right off the island, plus catch your own dinner and cook it fresh over an open fire at the Conch Luau.

๐ŸŽฃ

Fishing

Fish for your dinner in the crystal-clear Florida Keys waters. Cook your catch for the crew at camp. All fishing gear is provided.

๐ŸŒŒ

Island Experiences

Island campfires, crab races, the SCENES conservation project, and a closing ceremony โ€” memories that last a lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

The troop payment covers your share of the Sea Base deposit ($50) and 2nd payment ($135.12) which Sea Base requires 30 days after registration, plus Stripe processing fees. This reserves your spot. The remaining payments ($608.06 each in Nov 2026 and March 2027) go directly to Sea Base.
No. Once you pay, there are no refunds available. Sea Base has strict cancellation policies and the troop has already committed to these spots. Please only sign up if you can attend.
No sailing is involved โ€” the Out Island Adventure is a kayaking and island-camping program. No prior experience is needed. Sea Base staff will teach you everything, including paddling, snorkeling, and fishing.
The Out Island Adventure is primarily a paddling and island-camping experience โ€” you won't be on a boat for long stretches. The kayaking is in protected, calm waters close to shore.
Sea Base provides meals, dry bags, fishing equipment, and nearly everything you need. Bring: wide-brimmed hat, reef-safe sunscreen (no aerosols), non-aerosol bug repellent, polarized sunglasses with strap, 2 water bottles, 2 UPF long-sleeve shirts, 3 pairs shorts, water shoes (hard-soled, closed-toe), light rain jacket, sleeping bag insert (summer), small pillow, 2 towels, and a Conch Luau shirt. See the Participant Guide for the complete packing list.
We will try to offset costs with fundraising, but we can make no guarantees. Travel costs (airfare, ground transportation, meals en route) are additional and not included in the Sea Base fees.
Troop leadership will assign scouts to crews closer to the trip. Crews will include members from both Troop 25B and Troop 25G with appropriate adult leadership. All three crews will have the same Out Island Adventure experience.
